I’ve been up to my ears in Glitzy Blooms over the past few weeks. We have our first “show” of sorts this coming weekend, so we’re excited and nervous (well, I’m nervous… not sure about my partner). Anyhow in between glitzy bloomin’, my day job, taking care of the kids and what not, I managed to get a few craft projects done. I researched and bought a new video camera… returned said video camera because it was a pain in the butt to convert files to make them speed up (something I do a lot with my vids)… researched and bought another new video camera (which I love)… experimented with my tripod (new camera=new angle=new setup required)… chucked tripod aside out of frustration… fished tripod out of the pile of junk in our backroom… finally found a good tripod setup… shot a scrapbooking process vid. I like the new camera. I still need to fuss with it a bit to get the lighting better, but overall, I like it. It uploads waaaaaay faster than my old one, and it’s HD (not something I need, but a bonus). Ok enough yakking, here are th projects I’ve done. I will be uploading the video tonight, and will embed it here tomorrow if time allows.

Here are 2 cards I made 2 weeks ago:

2 cards (5.25 X 5.25)

I used an MFT sketch for these.  For the “Thanks” card (on the right) I used the Material Girl 6X6 pad by Cosmo Cricket.  The chipboard flower is also Material Girl.  Ribbon on that card is Stampin Up (Tangerine Tango).  Behind the ribbon I used my Martha Stewart Double Loops border punch on both sides of a strip of cream cardstock.  I distressed the edges of all the patterned papers but left the edges of the cardstock layers.  The card on the left is made from the October Afternoon Fly a Kite 8 X8 pad and features a dimensional bird sticker from American Crafts (can’t remember the line, but it was from a recent Scarlet Lime kit).  The ribbon on that one is just cheap walmart satin ribbon, but I find that ribbon is just as nice and the more expensive brands.  I think satin and grosgrain are satin and grosgrain, so as long as I can find the colours I like, I usually buy the Walmart kind.  I only occasionally buy brand name ribbon, and only if it’s on sale.  I decorated the insides with scraps from the cards:

Here’s another card I did a few days later:

Celebrate Today (5.25 X 5.25)

The idea of putting a small bfly punch inside the larger Bfly punch is something I copied from Amy R’s blog (Prairie Paper and Ink).  She did a video where she reviewed the Martha Stewart Punch Anywhere on the Page Butterfly punch, and she made a card from it.  I saw it whaile ago, so I can’t remember how similar mine is to hers.  I used pink patterned papers from my scrap drawers, Mambo Melon Cardstock (Stampin up) for the base.  Now that I think of it, this is a Martha tribute card… I used 3 different Martha Stewart punches here.  The sentiment  (from Papertrey Ink) is stamped on oval and scalloped oval Nestabilities. I sponged pink ink over the oval using the Nestie die as a stencil to cover the edges.  And there’s that Walmart pink ribbon again.

Birthday Bfly card (A2)

This gorgeous butterfly is by K and Co. and comes in a package of about 20 beautiful butterflies of all sizes and shapes.  Many have the chipboard base and acetate overlays like this one.  I can’t remember which stamp set the sentiment is from (probably Hero Arts or Inkadinkadoo).  I coloured the letters of the word Birthday with my Razzleberry marker (stampin up). (ETA: the sentiment is actually an American Crafts rub-on…no wonder I couldn’t place the stamp set it was from)  The line of pearls is Kaiserkraft.  Te flower paper is K and Co (poppy seed collection) and the black /grey paper is martha stewart.  More walmart ribbon, this time in teal.

Here’s a card I made yesterday morning.  It took me hours, but I do like how it turned out.  It’s for my sister, who is expecting in September:
Shop til you drop (4.?? X 6.??)
This card is a weird size, because I made it to fit in one of my left over lined wedding invitation envelopes (yes I still have the extras after 8 years!).  I didn’t use a sketch for this one,  so it took forever, even thought it’s not all that complicated.  Paper is from the Basic Grey Origins collection. Stamp is MFT. I coloured the girl with my Copic markers then paper pieced her top using a piece of the Origins paper.  I love how it turned out!  I tried to put real stitching around the edges, but I couldn’t get my machine to work.  Here’s the inside:

I used the labels 4 Nestability, fiskars scalloped border punch, and a small flower punch.

Here’s a layout I did last weekend:

12 X 12 layout

This is a layout about my younger daughter, who loves going to our friends’ salon to get her hair done.  I used the Scarlet Lime March kit and got a chance to use lots of paint on this one!  It was a lot of fun working with the corrugated cardboard pieces by Jillibean Soup.  I’m also loving those woodgrain cloud rub-ons.  I mean, who wouldn’t love woodgrain clouds???

I had 2 series of photos to scrap last weekend, and I’m realising looking at them both together, that they ended up having almost the exact same layout.  I don’t use sketches for layouts these days, so it is completely coincidence.  I seem to have inadvertently scraplifted myself!  Here’s the second one:

12 X12 layout

This one also uses the Scarlet Lime March kit.  I cut out the birds and stapled them to the page.  I painted the corrugated cardboard letters black.  Used Raven Glimmer Mist on the background paper.  Added some stuff and called it a day.  I like this one a lot.  I have a process vid of it coming maybe tomorrow.

Mercy Tiara

Mercy Tiara

You may be wondering who is Mercy Tiara, and why the name? MercyTiara is an anagram of my first and middle names, Tracy Marie. I discovered this name in the 90's in grad school when we were all coming up with alter egos for one another in a lab one day. I've used it ever since, but you can call me Tracy or MercyTiara, or anything you want... just don't call me late for supper!
