Today’s layout was inspired by a sketch from Nuts About Sketches.  They’re having a design team call and I fell in love with the sketch as soon as I saw it.

Sketch from NutsAboutSketches
I loved that the design was towards the top of the page because so many of my pages are towards the bottom.  This one makes for a change from my usual style, and helps balance out the bulk in my scrapbooks.  Here’s what I came up with:

Monkey Business 12X12 layout

I used mostly October Afternoon paper from their Farmhouse collection.  I layered 3-4 papers from the collection under each photo and sewed them in place with a zigzag stitch.  Then I cut the circle from a kraft coloured piece of Swiss Dot paper from Bazzil (I got a tonne of this paper free from my lss by using my frequent shopper card!), stitched around the edges, and placed it on my Cosmo Cricket background paper.  The strips below the title are Crate Paper border stickers.

I used Thickers for the title.  The font for “Monkey” was white… I inked it with peeled paint distress ink and while it was still wet, used a baby wipe to wipe most of the ink off.  I love this effect on white chipboard- it gives a beautifully uneven distressed look.

Embellishments include some ephemera (a ticket, a Canadian Tire bill, stickers from the Farmhouse collection, and butterflies punched with 2 Martha Stewart punches.  And I seem to be on a paint-splatter kick.  I used a mixture of 2 browns thinned with glimmer mist, and my favourite paint colour, Shopping Bag by Making Memories.

Mercy Tiara

Mercy Tiara

You may be wondering who is Mercy Tiara, and why the name? MercyTiara is an anagram of my first and middle names, Tracy Marie. I discovered this name in the 90's in grad school when we were all coming up with alter egos for one another in a lab one day. I've used it ever since, but you can call me Tracy or MercyTiara, or anything you want... just don't call me late for supper!
