This week’s sketch over on Sketchy Thursdays caught my eye because it uses 3 photos, and I had three great pics from Livie’s first soccer game last week.

So here is my take on the sketch:

I used stuff from my stash plus several items from the October 2010 Scarlet Lime kit.  I don’t know the paper lines as they did not come with the little strip that tells who made the paper.  The wide purple trim is also from the kit, and I thought it was the perfect accent to pick up on the purples in the photos.  The 2 stamped tags are from 2 different Scarlet Lime kits (trying to use up some old ransacked kits!).  I cut 2 large topnote shapes out of the floral and green patterned papers, using the largest in the Labels One Grand Nestabilities set.  Then I cut one more, from the regular Labels One set (the second largest in that set) out of some reddish patterned paper from Sassafrass.  I used markers to edge the 2 large topnote shapes with various widths, and distressed the edges of most other elements with Fired Brick, Dusty Concord, Vintage Photo, and Frayed Burlap Distress Inks.  The distressed dots that look like bubble wrap are rub ons by Glitz Designs.  The green butterfly is from Dear Lizzy by American Crafts, and the No. 22 embellie is cut from a piece of Pink Paislee patterned paper (Daily Junque, House of Three) which I distressed and pop dotted.  I used correction tape (white out tape) to draw journalling strips on my smaller distressed topnote so my journalling would stand out.

The little “let’s play”star banner (cut from an MFT DieNamic) caused me some heartache.  I rarely use banners so although I tried and tried to figure out where to place it, I ended up straightening it out and using it as a border instead.  I made it from a piece of red cardstock and some little Jenni Bowlin alpha stickers.

I put the left over stars from the banner on the No.22 embellie and finished off the layout with a title using Thickers (Dear Lizzy Fantastic Foam and Letterman).  I also added some buttons and stapled on a few extra pieces of purple and red ribbon.

Bend it Like Beckham is on my list of favourite chick flicks, and I had been watching it one day and Livie came in and saw that it was about soccer, so wanted to watch it.  I had to sit with her to fast forward through the parts I didn’t want her to see, but she really liked it!  After she watched it though, she started to not want to play soccer anymore (her Under 6 soccer hadn’t started yet, so she might have just been intimidated and imagined the team would be like the team in the movie).  She went last week and had a blast and now she wants to be a soccer star!

Here is the process vid:

Mercy Tiara

Mercy Tiara

You may be wondering who is Mercy Tiara, and why the name? MercyTiara is an anagram of my first and middle names, Tracy Marie. I discovered this name in the 90's in grad school when we were all coming up with alter egos for one another in a lab one day. I've used it ever since, but you can call me Tracy or MercyTiara, or anything you want... just don't call me late for supper!
