Edited on Thursday Sept 8th to add:
Hooray!  I was picked as a Sketchy Thursday Favourite again!!!  Woo hoo!  Wow, the talent over there is so amazing… I’m blown away to be in their company!

We took a mini holiday to White Point Beach Resort this weekend.  Although it is only a couple of hours away, it was our first time going.  We left Friday, intending to return on Sunday but after checking out the place when we arrived Friday, we promptly added an extra night to our stay.  There was just too much to do in 2 days!  We had so much fun playing on the beach (much too cold for swimming!!), swimming in the pools, pedal-boating, doing crafts, feeding the bunnies, and so much more!  It was a much needed getaway for us AND the kids, who were getting bored with their summer vacation.  As hard as we tried to keep them busy with summer camps and playdates, it’s a looong summer to fill up!

Scott took his camera gear and got some great shots but my favourite is one he captured with his iPhone.  It was taken this morning when Livie and he went out to the beach to find some memory stones.  The book I read them last night was from the gift shop at White Point and was about memory stones, so Livie and Sophie were both psyched to go out and find some stones to remember their vacation at White Point.  It was very early, so the sun was still low in the sky, and brilliantly bright, reflecting off the water on the sand.  The photo is so beautiful, I HAD to scrap it right away.  I used the sketch over on Sketchy Thursdays, and here’s what I came up with:

Memory Stones
Memory Stones Layout (Sketchy Thursdays inspired)

I love the green background paper!  It is from the American Crafts Campy Trails line, and I used the little strip on the bottom of the paper as the strips on the right of the photo (the strip with an orange shape outlined in black).  I matted the photo with a cute tiny polkadot (I love tiny polka dots!!) from October Afternoon’s Rocket Age line.  I also cut out pieces from a piece of Cosmo Cricket Odds and Ends paper.  Various Basic Grey was also used: Decorative Paper Clips from their Basics collection, alpha stickers from their Granola collection, canvas tag from their Olivia collection.

The 2, 3, 4, 5 are for the 2nd-5th of September, the days we stayed at White Point- the days the memories will be from. They were punched with my 3/4 inch punch from the CC Odds and Ends paper. The two butterflies (one in the photo above, and one in the photo below) were cut from another piece of the AC Campy Trails paper, using my Beautiful Wings Embosslit from Stampin’ Up!

The letters for the words “Memory Stones” were cut from Cuttlebug’s Olivia font.  I was at first planning to use the die cuts in a dark brown cardstock as the title.  But I didn’t like the look, so I misted the bottom part of the layout (had to mask off the photo and embellies, as they were already glued down at this point) with Tattered Leather glimmer mist and carefully peeled off the letters to use the negative space as the title.  I like this look a lot better and it also reminds me of the idea that memories are traces left behind by something.

Here’s the process vid for those who are interested:

I have lots more photos to scrap, so a mini album is probably in my future…

Mercy Tiara

Mercy Tiara

You may be wondering who is Mercy Tiara, and why the name? MercyTiara is an anagram of my first and middle names, Tracy Marie. I discovered this name in the 90's in grad school when we were all coming up with alter egos for one another in a lab one day. I've used it ever since, but you can call me Tracy or MercyTiara, or anything you want... just don't call me late for supper!
