I wanted to do a second layout for lesson 1 of the Pop Off the Page class. I want to get the most out of this class, so I went back and thoroughly read the materials (I had just skimmed them before) and a few things jumped out at me. Firstly, Wilna Furstenberg created a title out of tags with Silhouette cuts. I have lots of these white tags from Staples, and had never thought of sticking them on my Cameo mat and cutting into them. I LOVE the look. So I had to try that, and the cut file was included in the class materials, so I just used that one and lifted the title from Wilna’s layout. She also sewed down one side of her layers, and I really liked that look and wanted to try it as well.
The second layout that really stood out for me is Rahel Menig’s layout which used really soft colours, included an envelope, and left long tails on the threads. I’ve had a scrappy crush on Rahel for awhile now and often use envelopes in my layers, but this time I wanted to do something different with the envelope (in this case I used the glassine baggie that some of the class supplies came in). I usually either stick a tag in it and use it for hidden journalling, or I ignore its functionality and just use it as a layer. This time I used the flap of the envelope/baggie to hold all the layers in place on the right. Even though I ended up covering up the washi tape that held it all down, I do really like the look of the glassine holding the layers together. Also that “shine” stamp filled the pink tab so perfectly it made me swoon!
So the first class got me cutting into tags (will be doing more of that!), leaving longer tails on my threads (maybe more of that), sewing through my layers, using more subtle colours in my layers, and using washi tape differently. I can’t wait to see what the second class will bring!
A process video will be posted over the weekend.
