This month Scrapbook Supplies Online is hosting a sketch challenge using Becky Fleck’s Pagemaps and Cardmaps. The details are here, but basically, you upload your layout and/or card to the gallery before the end of the month and you will be entered in a draw for a $25 voucher to the store! How awesome is that? I LOVE scrapping to win more scrappy supplies!
Here is the sketch:
And here is my take on it:
I turned the design 90 degrees and omitted the journalling/title block and added some paper strips.
That background paper (from October Afternoon) seemed perfect for a farm market layout- it’s a ledger paper from a farm market! But the lines on it were so bold that I thought it would distract from the photos, so I put 2 coats of white wash over it (a mixture of acrylic paint and water) to tone down the lines. See my process video for a before and after comparison of the background paper and to see how I did it. I think the wash gives a lovely creamy effect and allows the other elements to pop off the page. I also splattered paint in 3 colours, and added machine stitching. I also used my typewriter to make up labels for each picture, since I didn’t do any other journalling on this one.
The strips of paper are from Echo Park and piece under the title is an ephemera piece from 7 Gypsies. Letters, of course, are Thickers (I outlined the green ones to make them stand out against the green and blue background).
I used red buttons (most are Stampin Up) to mimic the red bottle caps in the middle photo and placed them to follow the path of the paint splats.
