This layout was so much fun to make! I knew I wanted to use strips of paper and I knew I wanted to sew them, but I thought my sewing machine was broken. It turns out, I just had it threaded wrong, and it still works as smoothly and perfectly as ever! I decided to use dark thread, which completely changes the look of the papers. The background paper is from the Cosmo Cricket Odds and Ends collection. I had planned to use my typewriter to make some phrase strips, but then I noticed the Cosmo Cricket paper on my desk had a lot of relevant phrases, so I cut them out. The paper strips are from 7 Gypsies and Basic Grey (Out of Print and Olivia collections).
Everything on this layout (including the photos) is either inked or outlined in black. I used up a lot of leftover chipboard pieces from older projects. I lined them all to give them cohesion and to help them stand out from the busy background. I made a butterfly from an already made wire body (taken from one of those butterflies that look like they’re made from coloured nylon stockings) and a 5-petal Prima paper flower (I tore off one of the petals). The black “ribbon” tied to some of the chipboard pieces is actually black floral tape (which I love to use in my art journal but have never used on a scrapbook page).
The cluster at the top has a great phrase: “Do the things you never thought you could.” I stuck a few punched shapes under the phrase (cut from black text paper, maybe by Glitz designs). The journalling on this layout is about having fun but also facing your fears because my youngest daughter struggles with anxiety and these kinds of place (crowds, scary rides, a place she’s never been) is always a little tough for her. I am so proud of her because not only does she willingly try these things, but she actually has a lot of fun once she gets into the swing of things.
